Parent-Teacher Manual 5-1-3

    A. Evaluation Perspectives

Teachers may use written examinations, questioning, and/or oral examinations to evaluate each student's competence and understanding of the relationship between fractions and decimals. The following points should be considered:

    1. Can the student use a fraction or decimal to express the relationship of a part to the whole?
    2. Does the student understand the relationship between the various types of fractions and decimals?
    3. Can the student compare fractions with decimals?
    4. Can the student match a fraction and a decimal to a number line? Does the student understand sequencing of fractions and decimals?
    5. Is the student able to add and subtract fractions and decimals?
    6. Do students understand the concept of a decimal by analogy with fractions; students can read and write decimals and fractions correctly.
